Yellow Recognition

February 9, 2010

Yellow is currently doing a user survey of their iPhone app users. One of their questions is

Do you use other search applications to find businesses on your iPhone?

  1. Yellow
  2. AroundMe
  3. Google Maps
  4. Findit
  5. Zenbu

Which, as far as I know, is the first official recognition Zenbu has received from Yellow. We must be doing alright!

PS. Yellow Chocolate has hit the stores now. I’m actually quite keen to give it a taste test but I’m not sure the campaign will have much affect on attracting people to use their service. Of course that was never the point…

The real thrust of Yellow advertising is to convince their current advertisers that they made the right choice, or in geek-speak, to prevent post purchase cognitive dissonance. I wonder if advertisers get a free chocolate bar with their $10,000+ ad?

It’s great to hear that Zenbu is gaining traction. However, I think that Yellow, Zenbu and any other business directory are facing a huge challenge competing with Facebook Business Pages and also Google Pages. Yellow must be getting very worried about their 2.4 billion purchase.

Yellow’s business model (paid-up-front display advertising) is dying while their stranglehold on the core directory information they publish is also under heavy attack from all sides. The future is not bright.
The aim of Zenbu is to help you find everything, and make that information available to all free under a CC license. No competition at all in that space.

Will Zenbu be producing an Android app?
    Please 🙂

An Android app would be very cool but until that happens…

Zenbu does have a mobile friendly website which I use on my Android device. http://www.zenbu.co.nz will auto-detect your device and serve the mobile pages. It does 90% of what a native app would do so should keep you going for now.
