I noticed that the Garmin CN Aust/NZ maps do have Telstra pay phone locations well mapped out.
Don’t think they have NZ payphones listed though surprisingly.

Gee thanks for the credit!
I suddenly realised one day walking to work that the POIs were hopelessly out if date and made it a personal mission to correct and add in every business on my daily work commute – 3.5km journey !

This includes the very centre of Hamilton CBD. one thing lead to another while looking up addresses if chain stores and before I knew it, I’d ended up with addresses if hundreds all around NZ,

For those iPod touch users like me (dunno how many others out there using Zenbu), a cool update would be ability to update database in offline mode then when wifi is available sync it back to live Zenbu website!

I actually read about AR in stuff one day several weeks ago with an iPhone application in the States.
I immediately thought about how cool that will be if it’s available here using Zenbu data!
Too bad the iPod touch 3G still doesn’t have a camera!

When 3D high quality images are available, with stereophonic sound, it will be easy traveling to zoom around 3D web cams in cyberspace rather than wait at airports and then travel for days at huge expense to be mugged by the local thug while craning a neck to see over a crowd.

Google’s Street View and Satellite views and Google Earth are a good start, with Zenbu information close at hand.

Google has had the Local Business Center out for several years, you see these at the top of search results occasionally but they certainly aren’t pervasive.

Google Place Pages is an extension of the LBC as there are pages for places, cities, parks – not just businesses; much like Zenbu has been all along.

Google says Place Pages won’t appear in search index results so they won’t be extremely visible to most.

You’re right in one sense though; Yellow and other directories that charge excessive advertising fees will continue to struggle as quality free information becomes more available.

There is also considerable niche value in the fact that Zenbu data is Creative Commons licensed, something that Google or Yellow won’t compete with.

In 6 months or so the Yellow website including all the other business directories and Zenbu will find it pretty challenging to compete with Google Place Pages – a new product announced a few days by Google

Yellowpages.com is the most worthless advertising investment a company could ever make. All a business needs is an updated Google Business listing which is 100% FREE. Keep this business listing updated, and keep your website current and your customers will find you.

Also beware of the auto-renewal clause in the yellowpages print and internet advertising contracts. You may tell your sales rep that you do not want to renew, but if you do not do so in writing (with registered mail, return receipt) Yellowpages will automatically renew your advertising contract for another year and your sales rep will automatically get another commission of of you and your worthless ad.

Beware after you mail a notice of non-renewal to yellowpages you will get tons of calls from AT&T and its L. M. Berry minions demanding that you continue to do business with them.. Just say no to worthless advertising, say no to yellowpages and yellowpages.com!
